Šempeter - Vrtojba

Details

Location: Šempeter - Vrtojba

The Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba comprises two towns in the Eastern part of the Goriška region, where the Vrtojba-Bilje hills pass into a fertile flatland, shaped by the alluvium deposits of the rivers Soča and Vipava. The region was inhabited already in Roman times. In the past, the two towns supplied Gorica with vegetables and other farm products, while today they are developing into a modern economic and trade centres.

Green forests, vineyards, fields and meadows comprise a rich and colourful image. The Vrtojba-Bilje hills with the large portion of the Goriško plain offer the best conditions for growing vine, fruit, vegetables and flowers, which is why this region is also called the "Goriška garden".

Both towns offer relaxation (fitness, massage, etc.) and entertainment (concerts of internationally renowned musicians, performances by dance groups, comedians, theatre ensembles, etc.). Travellers can stay at the Lipa Hotel and the Šanpier restaurant. The sights Markov hrib (227 m) above Šempeter pri Gorici and the St. Ot hill, rising over the forest of the Vrtojba-Bilje hills, offer a marvellous view of the nearby surroundings.

Šempeter pri Gorici and Vrtojba
are the venue of many social events enjoyed by the visitors. Numerous singing choirs, cultural-artistic, sports and various other societies organise a series of events, concerts and other happenings throughout the year.

Athletics, ball sports and other recreational and sports activities take place during the entire year at the HIT Sports Centre, whereas active relaxation is provided on the Trim Track at Vrtojba.
